The bar was much more subdued in the morning. Sun filtered through the high windows, completely changing the atmosphere in the wood paneled room. Only a few members were sitting around, most of them nursing coffees.

“Morning lovely,” the woman behind the counter called. Her light blue hair bounced with an exuberance I had never learned to muster in the morning, not even with military training. “It’s good to see you.” She leaned over and reached for my mate. I expected for Whisper to just squeeze her hands gently and step away, but instead she nearly pulled the woman over the bar in a deep hug.

“I missed you, Baby.” Whisper pressed her lips to the woman’s cheek. “Where’s Ethan this morning?” My mate crawled up onto a bar stool and looked at me over her shoulder. Thick ropes of her hair tumbled back and swung against the long sleeved shirt she had found buried at the bottom of her drawers. “I missed him last night.”

“He’s staying out with Tex along with Jade, Xander and Harper.” The bartender handed my mate a steaming cup of coffee, and I watched as Whisper breathed in the earthy scent of the beverage, a smile tickling the edges of her lips.

“Bella had her baby,” my mate sighed. “Of course she did. She was already well past due when I was taken.” The sadness on her face wasn’t anything I could fix. Instead I leaned over and pressed a kiss to the corner of her mouth, tasting her cherry flavored lipgloss before I pulled away.

“Yeah, she was born not long after,” Baby sighed. She reached over and squeezed both of Whisper’s hands. “They talked about naming her Stella. But Les put his foot down. He said you weren’t gone, and we weren’t mourning the dead, so the baby would be named Harper, and you would be her godmother. Not a single person was going to challenge that, and Kai and Bella named her Harper Eve. She’s sweet as pie, just like her mama.”

A sob came from my mate’s throat. Tears sparkled in the corners of her eyes, and she quickly dabbed them away with a napkin before they ruined her makeup.

“They’re bringing her by today. You have lots of yummy baby cuddles in your future, my friend. Everyone seems to be popping out little ones.” Baby sighed, and got a far-off look in her eyes, before she went back to grabbing coffees. “I’m being rude,” the woman said and turned to me with her hand out. “I’m Baby. Head Club Girl. Just let me know if you need anything, though I’m sure Whisper will show you the ropes.”

“Scar,” I said, letting her shake my hand. She had a nice firm grip. A quick sniff of the air said our little club girl was human. “You been here long?”

“Few years” She smiled. “You’re wondering how I got mixed up in all of this.”

“Baby fell into our laps.” Whisper sipped at her coffee, a little frown tugging at her mouth.
