Kelly woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing.

She rubbed her eyes and looked around the shabby room, trying to remember where she was. The events of the previous night flooded back to her: the radio, the code words, the mention of Ricardo. She sat up, reaching for her phone to check the time. It was early in the morning, but she knew she couldn't go back to sleep now. She needed to go over her notes, see if she could connect the dots.

Over in the bed, Jordan stirred, probably awakened by Kelly’s phone. He stretched and yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Good morning," Kelly said from across the room, her voice hoarse from lack of sleep.

"You're still up?" he asked, surprised.

"I couldn't sleep, so I kept working on the radio," she said, gesturing to the notebook in front of her. "I heard some interesting things last night."

Jordan sat up, curiosity piqued. "What'd you hear?"

"I'll tell you over breakfast," Kelly said. "Right after we figure out how to get back on the road."

They both got ready and left the room to find something to eat and plan their next steps. As they walked down the town's single street, Kelly wiped a hand across her brow, brushing away the sweat that had gathered there. The heat was stifling, and though the windows of the buildings around them were mostly dark, Kelly couldn’t help glancing at them out of the corners of her eyes. She felt spooked, as if there could be a cartel gunman behind every pane of glass. Eventually, she spotted a parking lot where a man was polishing a few rusted muscle cars.

The man looked up as they approached, a welcoming grin on his face.

"¿Hola, cómo están?" he asked in a friendly voice.

Kelly smiled back, grateful for the chance to practice her Spanish. "Estamos bien, gracias. ¿Y tú?"

"Estoy bien también. ¿En qué puedo ayudarlos?" The man put down his rag and stepped toward them.

"We're looking for a set of wheels," Jordan said, looking slightly bemused. "Um, our car broke down, and --"

"Señor, señor, no habla inglés."

Jordan grimaced. "Oh, I was afraid you'd say that," he muttered. Clearing his throat, he tried again, this time in Spanish. "Um, necesito... agarro... vagón. Por favor."

Kelly smirked at Jordan's fumbled Spanish, and the car salesman shot her an amused glance. She held up a hand to cut Jordan off. "No le hagas caso, por favor."

"¿Necesitas un coche?" Do you need a car?

Kelly nodded.

"Sí, sí, tenemos varios en venta. ¿Qué tipo de coche buscan ustedes?" We have several for sale. What type of car are you looking for?

They discussed their needs and budget for a few minutes, and the man showed them several cars that might fit the bill. Finally, they settled on an old but reliable green Volkswagen Beetle. With rusted wheel wells and a dented side, the car had seen better days, but it was the best option they had at the moment. The salesman assured them that it would
