Sometimes this swelling makes the breasts feel tender or sore. In addition, there may be a flat buttonlike bump under one or both nipples. If this happens to you and you don’t know that it’s perfectly normal, it can be a bit scary. As one man told us:

I had these bumps under my nipples. I thought I had cancer or something.

THE UPSIDE OF PUBERTY

Puber ty isn’t all perspiration and pimples. It can seem that way when we’ve spent a whole class period (or a whole chapter) on the downside. So at the end of these classes, we remind everybody there’s an upside to puber ty by listing all the good things that can happen as you go through puberty. Here’s one of those lists.
