We have need of stability, consistency & longevity in life.
I was flying here and there and doing a lot of damage because I was without knowledge and wisdom and maturity. I think thatâs the way everybody starts out in anything they do in life, with that kind of full bore passion. But then as they grow and mature, they go from flying to running. In other words, they settle down. They become more consistent. They grow. They mature. Itâs not that they lose their passion or their fire, but itâs more directed, more consistent, more settled. After a while, they begin to walk.
Walking is maturity; walking is consistency. Walking is the demonstration that a person has grown in the Lord and grown in life. Now they are doing more good and getting greater results with less effort because they are focused and matured in the Lord. Even James said, âBut the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.â 15 In other words, James is saying that when we first learn anything it is pure. Itâs black and white. I believe in black and white. I believe in absolutes, but sometimes we use those black and white absolutes as legalism in our life in every area rather than to be full of grace. Itâs first pure, then peaceable, then gentle, then easy to be entreated. It doesnât mean that we become compromisers. It means that we gain wisdom and mature in the Lord. We learn to negotiate those waters. So remember dear friend, that resting in the Lord and waiting on God is a process. Those that wait on the Lord will renew their strength. Then they will fly. Theyâll run. Then they will learn to walk. You donât lose your passion. You donât lose your fire. You donât lose your purpose when you are walking. You are just having greater results. Sometimes with a lot less effort, because itâs focused passion and purpose.
