Early the next morning, Henry met up with Dr. Smith. It was still dark out. Henry climbed into the box, and it was nailed shut. The box was going to be sent to another abolitionist, William H. Johnson, who lived on Arch Street in Philadelphia. On the top of the box was written THIS SIDE UP WITH CARE. Henryâs box traveled north by wagon, railroad, steamboat, and ferry. At one point, he landed upside down! He also could hear the sound of the waves. That meant he had to be on a ship, a ship going to Washington, DC.
