CHAPTER SEVEN

Helen Karras flew from Athens to Sydney, went through Customs and straight onto the Cosmos Air plane that was waiting for her.

Adrianne, Keith, Zoe and Castor were on board, waiting for her.

There was a tearful, happy reunion between Zoe and her older cousin.

Between Castor and Helen? Not so much...

Castor remembered how Helen used to chide him and tell him he was acting like a self-righteous bully.

Helen remembered how Castor used to behave like a bully.

They looked at each other warily and shook hands politely, but they didn’t hug, didn’t exchange kisses on the cheek.

“You’re looking good, Helena, very good,” said Castor gruffly, obviously on his best behavior.

“You too, Castor,” said Helen politely, and those were the only words the two of them exchanged all the way up to Cairns, which meant the man was pretty silent for a full three hours as Zoe and Helen caught up on the last twenty five years and Keith and Adrianne busily answered emails for the whole flight.

Castor stared out the window the whole way and worried Adrianne’s Director of Hospitality wouldn’t like his wines.

He sighed with relief as the plane landed, and he took charge of the several cases of Chrisander’s Sparkling Shiraz. Merlot, Semillon and Chardonnay that would be served aboard the Windsong. Of course the Sparkling Shiraz was earmarked for toasts to the bride and the groom, in Castor’s eyes anyway.

It never occurred to him that perhaps they already had Cristal on board for those toasts.

A limousine was waiting and gave them a quick tour of Cairns before taking them to the dock where the Windsong was tied up.

Castor was even more reserved as his Aunt Dimitra coolly hugged him and deposited an air kiss somewhere near his left cheek and then enthusiastically engulfed Zoe and told her how glad she was to see her again, with a black look at Castor.

Keith and Adrianne exchanged wry smiles.

“It’s going to be a major job avoiding World War III,” Adrianne muttered under her breath to her fiancé.

Keith nodded. “For sure. I think my role will be to keep Castor occupied and as far from Dimi as possible. Helen was fairly civilized, but I can see trouble brewing with Dimi.”

“Please,” agreed Adrianne. “Let’s try and make this time as pleasant as possible.”

Keith put a friendly hand on Castor’s shoulder.

“Come with me, Castor. I’ll introduce you to the Captain and then we’ll go find the Sommelier and Angelo.”

“I’ll come with you,” said Gordy hastily, seeing the storm clouds brewing behind his wife’s eyes and knowing a lightning bolt might be shot at Castor any minute. “After you meet with the Sommelier, Castor, I’ll take you down and show you the water sports platform. Adrianne says you’re a good sailor?”

“I am,” agreed the Greek, pleased his daughter had said good things about him.

“Well, there are six or seven Sunfish down there. Maybe this afternoon, you and I can take a couple of them out and have a good time, leave the women to their gab-fest,” grinned the eighty-four year old billionaire from Boston.
