Create Connections

For good visual connection, be sure to paint the air (negative space) on one side of an object the same color as on the other side. See chapter three, Correcting Poor Visual Connections.

4PAINT THE THIRD LAYER

Sketch a third leaf behind the first two. Re-wet and apply color around your shapes and within the captured negative spaces. This time concentrate the darks in one area and allow the remainder of the painting to be a lighter value. To achieve this effect, apply a dark glaze in a selected area and use paint of a lighter value in others, or dilute the dark color with clear water as you work around the remaining shapes. Some areas may be left without further glazing. Allow the painting to dry.
