<You have learned Sever.
You have learned Dash.
You have Critical Strike: Heart Seeker.>
Cael's arms wrapped around me and plucked me off the ground, placing me on a nearby seat. He ignored everyone else's pestering.
"We can bring her a healer," The Prince suggested. Cael waved him away and picked up my leg, examining the wound. Looking closer at it, he pulled out a knife and widened the cut in the leather.
Through Cael's ministrations, I continued to stare at the personâ I just killed.
"What about her?" My voice broke as I fixated on her prone form. The copper feeling in my mouth had turned to bile at the implications of her death.
"That?" The Prince raised an eyebrow and flicked his gaze to the woman. I kept looking for signs of life, but her body remained perfectly still. "That is a worthless part of our people. She has brought shame to our people because of how weak she was. She will be discarded like the trash she is."â He said flippantly and focused back on his tea. "Remove that specimen from my sight." He barked.
A few servants came in and grabbed the woman by her arms. Ready to drag her out of the room. But, luckily, a magic-user took pity on her or maybe the servants and levitated her out of the room.
Trash?
Specimen?
Shame?
You used her as a spectacle.
I wanted to leave. To run away from what I did and who I needed to become in this world. Cael's soft voice pulled me out of my panic.
"It gets easier." He whispered. "Someday, it won't be this bad."
I didn't want it to get easier. I didn't want to be a point where I'd seen so much that I became desensitized.
My lips trembled, and the bile raised dangerously in my throat. Or, maybe it was my heart, and grief choking me.
"You'll learn it is either them or you." He continued. "And, I, for one, prefer it to be them."
I stared down at him. The blood gushing from my wound onto my gear became painfully apparent. I stared, mesmerized as my own life force spilled from me onto the seat below and covered Cael's hands.
"Look at me," Cael ordered. I felt compelled to listen. His eyes were beautiful. "You'll be okay." He smiled. His hand pressed lightly against my leg and then was gone.
I looked down at the wound and realized the blood stopped flowing and stilled over the wound. Flesh began to knit together, leaving a pink scar.
Cael placed his finger to his lips to quiet me and pressed a cloth against the wound. He pulled my hand over it to hold the fabric in place.
"It's nothing too serious. But, if you could restore her gear..." He trailed off, almost challenging the Prince to say no.
Personally, I wanted out of this place as quickly as possible.
The Prince nodded and returned to his tea.
Cael cleared his throat.
The Prince pulled something out of his breast pocket and held it out to me in an open palm. It was a blue tear-shaped gem that glittered in the sunlight.
