I sat by the window waiting for the helicopter that would be teleported into our mansion’s airspace when Aunt Ciara and her family arrived. I was also wearing clothes that covered me up from head to toe because I was going to be hugging and touching family members all day long and I didn’t want to access their memories, thoughts, or fantasies.

Because of their jobs, my parents owned several houses for travel and teleportation convenience. Their North American mansion was my parent’s dream house and the most expensive real estate we owned because it had a private beach and private woods. Unfortunately, we didn’t stay in it very often when we weren’t vacationing or hosting the monthly dinner that my parents and my uncles and aunts had every month to preserve and cultivate our extended, non-blood-related family.

Today marked another month where my mom was hosting the dinner party, so I was standing at the window waiting for Aunt Ciara, her mates: Uncle Doyle, Uncle Tariq, Uncle Drew, Aunt Diane, and their only son, Cabe.

Aunt Ciara’s family wasn’t related to me or my parents by blood, but they were relatives nonetheless. One of the things that tied my family to the three other families we called relatives was the fact that the women were Fae Omegas like my mom.

Fae Omegas were mutated supernaturals who could have multiple true mates from different supernatural factions as opposed to the norm where supernaturals only had one true mate. My mom, Aunt Ciara, Aunt Nina, and my grandmother, Grandma Imogen, were the first few Fae Omegas after the first Fae Omega. Their friendships were cultivated by the monthly family dinners that we only missed under uncontrollable situations. Of course, before I was born and our monthly family dinners became a thing, they had become close friends because they were the four Fae Omegas destined to thwart an evil Demigod from another world, whose efforts to destroy our world, had almost brought it to its knees.

Whenever I thought of my aunts and uncles, their bravery and sacrifices in their efforts to fight the evil Black Ace Sect and their leader, I felt fired up and incompetent. I felt like there was nothing for me to do because they’d already done everything that could be done to save the world. That incompetence I felt was why I started training so early in my life. It was why I became a consultant in the Supernatural Council’s Intelligence Department so early. It was why I kept begging for a field mission, and it was why I’d chosen to study to be a pack observer at Camdine Academy.

I wanted to be like my parents. I wanted to make a difference. And I wanted to preserve the peace that they had fought so hard for and lost their loved ones and friends for.

Each Fae Omega had a small family consisting of their mates and children and, of course, some other extended family members like Queen Meredith or my paternal grandparents, Daddy Reece’s parents, who were usually too busy touring the world to join our family meetings.
