After the game, Andrea was gathering up her things when she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Coach Tucker.

“Andrea, can I talk to you for a moment?” he asked.

“Oh, sure …” she replied. She waved goodbye to Rose, then turned back to Coach.

“You’ve made some big changes this season,” he said. “I just wanted to see how you were feeling about all of it.”

Andrea was quiet for a moment. “I wasn’t so sure at the start,” she admitted. “But the team is getting better with each game, and I know we’ll continue to improve. It’s just …”

“Yes?” Coach asked encouragingly.

“I really liked playing setter last year,” Andrea said, sighing. “I don’t understand why I got switched to middle blocker.”

“Well, during our first practices,” said Coach Tucker, “I could tell you had the makings of an excellent blocker. You’re one of the tallest girls on the team. With your experience as a setter, you know how a setter thinks. You’ve had to learn a few new things, but you’re already doing such great work.”

Andrea smiled. “Thanks,” she said, “and I guess lately I have been enjoying blocking.”

Coach Tucker smiled back. “I’m glad to hear it,” he said. “It takes time and hard work to settle into a position. And Zoe has had to practice her setter skills, too. Maybe you could give her some pointers sometime. I know she would really appreciate it.”
