We stay in Atlantis for a little while longer and Murie treats us not only to dinner but also to some Atlantean gold from the royal vault. I don’t protest because I have a feeling it might come in useful someday. I send my guys on a shopping trip for supplies and spend as much time as I can with Murie before we have to say goodbye for goddess knows how long. I guess until Cronos is defeated once and for all.

After we’re all prepared—properly this time—Triton at last gives us instructions to find Manannán Mac Lir, and we say our final goodbyes to Kal and Murie. It’s a bittersweet farewell but I know it’s not forever, and that our mom will be glad Murie has finally made her first deal.

A seahorse mermaid escorts us to yet another portal situated in a chamber behind the throne room, confirming my suspicion about Triton being a massive dick. He could have simply let us go through that door and sent us on our way to begin with, but he didn’t. At least Ione’s magical bubbles are still active, allowing us to breathe underwater once more.

The portal seems to take longer this time and my head spins when we finally land. We find ourselves in a gorgeous field that looks like it’s been plucked out of a movie. It’s absolutely teeming with apple trees but the fruit are not any apple color I’ve ever seen. They shimmer in the light like pure silver and look especially delicious. The air sparkles with golden particles that spread around me like mist, and when I look up, I realize we’re still underwater but this time inside a dome. The field somehow feels familiar and personal to me. However, no matter how much I prod my memory—mine and the inherited one—I can’t get any indication as to why.

I glance at Hades. “This feels familiar,” I mutter and his face breaks into a smile.

“That’s because this place is linked to your own underworld.”

“What?” I arch an eyebrow at him. “My own underworld?”

He nods. “The place I crafted for you in the Underworld, when we were in our first lives—the Elysian fields. You believed heroes deserved to pass over into a place worthy of them once they died, so we made Elysium together. It was a garden that would bloom without sun—a magical field only your energy could keep alive.”

“What about… would it still be there… I mean…”

He understands what I’m trying to ask and turns to cup my cheek. I see Dracula and Loki are watching us closely but they don’t say anything. I’m relieved. The last thing I need is more jealousy between them. Weirdly, they haven’t acted that jealous since their little rendezvous in the woods.

“Your energy still exists inside you. It hasn’t faded from the universe, my love.”

I smile and a weight lifts off my shoulders. Good. For some reason I feel responsible for that realm I’ve never seen in this life and don’t remember from the previous one.
