Chapter 28

I came awake slowly. I stretched underneath the covers, my body deliciously sore.

It had been a late, intense night—one I wouldn’t trade for the world.

I cracked an eyelid open and let out a startled yelp. There was a little girl standing next to the bed. Her blonde hair was a pile of ringlets, and she was wearing a pink tutu.

“Uh, who are you?” I asked, bringing the covers closer to my body even though I’d thrown on Viper’s undershirt to sleep in.

“I’m Lily. Who are you?”

“I’m Sutton.” I frowned. “Are you supposed to be in here?”

“No.” She raised a brow. “But I don’t think you’re supposed to be in Uncle Viper’s room, either. Why are you sleeping in his bed?”

“Oh, um…” I was definitely not going to answer that question, but the scrutinizing gaze I was getting made me want to fold. “How old are you?”

“Six.”

The door opened and Darcy appeared. “There you are! I thought I made it very clear you were not supposed to go into any of these rooms. These are private, Lily, you know that.”

“Sorry,” she said, not at all sounding contrite.

“Out,” Darcy commanded, pointing to the door. “And you’re in trouble. No cookies today.”

Lily’s lip began to wobble.

“No crocodile tears,” Darcy said.

Lily shuffled out of the room past Darcy and disappeared into the hallway.

“I’m so sorry,” Darcy apologized.

“Oh, it’s fine,” I said, sitting up. “I was just startled. What time is it?”

“A little after two.”

I blinked sluggishly.

“In the afternoon,” Darcy clarified with a smile.

“I slept late,” I murmured.

“Well, take a little time to get yourself sorted. Most of us are already here.”

“Most of us…right, the barbecue.” I ran a hand down my face. “I’ll be out there in a bit.”

Darcy smiled and then sailed out of the room, closing the door behind her.

I got out of bed and quickly threw on my pants. I grabbed my boots and phone and padded barefoot back to my room.

Five minutes later, I was in the shower, dowsing my head under the spray. The bathroom door opened, followed by the sound of heavy boots.

“Heard you had a wandering visitor,” Viper said.

“Yeah, that’s not how I expected to wake up this morning. Except it’s not morning, it’s early afternoon and you let me sleep. Now everyone is already here and I’m the girl who can’t get her ass out of bed.”

“Everyone knows you worked at Shelly’s last night.”

“How?”

“Mia told them. And I told them. They get why you slept late.”

“That’s not the real reason I slept late,” I teased. “And you know it.”

After Viper and I’d had our discussion, we’d crawled back into bed and crashed. But a few hours later, I’d woken up with Viper’s head between my legs and he hadn’t let me go back to sleep before wringing three orgasms from me.

“You’re not complaining.”

“What’s there to complain about?” I shut off the water and stuck my hand out through the shower curtain slit to grab a towel. I hastily dried off and wrapped it around me before drawing the entire curtain back.
