Chapter Thirteen

The Hospital

The afternoon of the 2nd day after Piper arrives At The Vikings Penthouse

Lyon's eyes followed the Detective as he approached Dr. King, eager to gather any information he could bring back to Vin. The news that Vin had already found his mate left Lyon in awe; as always, Vin was the first to achieve anything, including finding his mate. And unlike many others still searching, Lyon felt a profound certainty that he, too, had found his mate. But as they spoke, the familiarity that washed over him grew more pungent, stirring up conflicting emotions. He couldn't shake the feeling that he had met her before in another lifetime, but at the same time, he couldn't understand why she seemed like a stranger to him now. As his eyes took in the sterile white walls and sharp scent of disinfectant in the medical office, Lyon couldn't help but wonder if this was really where he was meant to find his mate.

Lyon's mind raced as he listened to Detective Wolfe's report on the gruesome murder. He couldn't believe that someone could commit such a heinous act and leave no trace behind. His thoughts were interrupted by Dr. King's question, bringing him back to reality.

The detective's grim expression mirrored Lyon's feelings. "I've exhausted all leads and conducted countless tests; I still have nothing solid to go on."

Dr. King leaned forward, her concern evident in her features. "What kind of killer are we dealing with here? Not that my medical advice would be psychiatric; I deal mostly with burn victims from trauma?"

The detective's response was ominous. "This is a different type of killer," he stated. "Someone who can seamlessly blend in with society without raising red flags. The term 'serial killer' doesn't adequately describe it; we've encountered similar cases before, but there's something more to this one. It's hard to put into words, but he appears to possess abilities beyond what is physically possible."

Lyon knew all too well what hiding one's true self from others was like. He couldn't help but wonder if this killer was just as good at hiding their true nature.

"It's unsettling," Dr. King murmured.

"Exactly," the detective agreed, flipping through his notes frantically. "We have serial killers who are intelligent, charming, and completely unpredictable. They could be anyone, which makes them so dangerous. However, as I said, there's more. When you look at these reports, Dr., that I will be giving you, you will understand, and you probably already have questions: how is it even possible to do this in the timeframe that was used, physically?"

Lyon shuddered, knowing he was not always what he seemed. The thought sent a chill down his spine.

"In this day and age, with people altering their appearances and identities, evil can take on a whole new meaning, which I had always suspected and taken into consideration, but still, this makes me wonder if there is something I do not completely understand about this case and possibly about everything else. " the detective added, seemingly finding something of interest in his notes.
