Part 2: The Action

The Villain

Lily

I take a long shower when I get home that evening, not turning the water off until it starts to run cold. I haven't stopped thinking about that kiss since driving away from the park, and my only plan for the rest of the night is to hop in bed and keep thinking about it until I fall asleep. Maybe even dream about it, if I’m lucky. This would be the perfect night for my dreams to come back.

But wouldn't you know, that plan is interrupted when I step out of my shower to see a man leering at me from across the room. I guess the fact that I’m not even startled this time means I’ve officially grown accustomed to imaginary people popping into my life at the worst times - not that there's ever actually a good time to hallucinate. Either way, it's not something I ever wanted to get used to.

A quick scan of the stranger leaning against my vanity reveals dark leather clothes, shoulder-length black hair, and a wicked grin gracing his perfectly chiseled face. There's only one person this can be.

“Hello, Elias.”

The wicked grin grows somehow even more sinister.

“Oh, I do love an intelligent woman,” he purrs. Yes, you read that right, he purred. That’s something I’ve always thought sounded just a little silly to read in books. But now that I’ve heard a villain purr in real life, I have to admit: it works for him.

He stands there for a moment, not saying anything, and then lets his eyes burn a slow path down my body. He lingers much longer than necessary on certain parts - I’m sure you can imagine which ones. I shudder and adjust my towel self-consciously.

Is he checking me out right now? Or does this mean I’m checking myself out? This is even weirder than the weird I’m starting to get used to.

“Although I wonder,” Elias finally continues and takes a step toward me. This guy clearly does not understand the concept of personal space. “Does it take any intelligence at all to work out that I’m the villain of your story?”

I take a step back, trying to re-establish some boundaries. “And what, exactly, is that supposed to mean?”

“Oh, I think you can figure it out, darling. Put that little brain of yours to some use for once and take a nice, long look at me. Greasy black hair, menacing smirk, lean but muscular. And don’t forget these angular facial features. I’m sexy as all hells but in a dangerous way. Hmm, it sounds like I even have a British accent.” He tilts his head and grimaces, “Gods, you’ve turned me into Tom Hiddleston haven’t you?”

I choose to ignore that question because a girl shouldn’t have to make any excuses for her brain turning sexy villains into Tom Hiddleston. “What are you getting at, Elias?”

He lets out an annoyed huff and shakes his head slowly, “Oh, Lily. It’s all so on the nose, this whole thing. It’s so…banal.
