“I know that face,” Josh said over FaceTime.

“What face? I’m not making a face,” I said. Josh had just announced a quick trip to town in a few days.

“You’ll get to see me all day Thursday.”

“You’ll be in town for four days. That’s ninety-six hours.” I furrowed my brow. “I think. You know I’m not good at math.”

Josh smiled. “I know. Maybe we can go to dinner or lunch on Saturday.”

I clapped. “I would love that! I’m not trying to be demanding, but I enjoy spending time with you, and I never know when I’m going to see you again.”

“I know.”

“And I don’t like to pull the I birthed you card, but thirty-six hours of labor with contractions a minute apart and no epidural.” I winked.

“That’s irrelevant now.”

“It’s never irrelevant.”

“I have another reason for calling you. Donny Henderson is dead.”

My eyes widened. “Did he come to you?”

Josh nodded. “At work today.”

I cringed. “Oh boy. How did that turn out?”

Josh shrugged. “Not bad. I walked out and took a phone call down the hall. No one noticed.”

“That’s good. I don’t want the military kicking you out because they think you’re crazy. Your grandmother would haunt the president if that happened. What did Donny say?”

“So, wait. You already know he’s dead?” he asked.

I nodded. “Your grandmother found him in his closet.”

Josh lived in a small studio apartment about thirty minutes off base in Santa Maria, California. My home’s main floor would hold seven of his tiny apartment. He walked the five feet from his computer desk to his kitchen sink. He turned on the faucet and poured himself a glass of water.

“How did that turn out?”

“Well, I met a Dahlonega police officer, so I called him.”

He smiled. “I bet there’s a story there somewhere.”

“There is, but you’ll never hear it.”

“Did the police say someone murdered him? It looks like it.”

“Yes. Someone stabbed him.” I needed a glass of wine. I poured myself a Chardonnay and sat on the deck. It was dark and Josh couldn’t see my face, so I flipped on the outdoor twinkle lights. “Tell me what he said.”'

“He doesn’t really remember,” Josh said. “He doesn’t look good. He said the person who murdered Chrissy murdered him.”

“Did he say who that is?”

“No. He left right after that.”

I dropped my head to the side. “Why do they always do that?”

“Beats me. You’re the pro at this.”

I laughed. “I am so not a pro at this. If he comes back, will you please tell him to come to me? The police dropped the charges against Sara, for now, we still need to know who killed Chrissy and Donny.”

“Do you have any ideas?”

“I do, but they’re rough, and I don’t have a lot of evidence to support them.”

“What about otherworldly evidence?” he asked.

“Nope. More like a hunch, and Grandma’s celestial opinion.”

He laughed. “Grandma’s awesome. She’s showing me how to make her meatballs and gravy this weekend.”

“Make sure you stir your arm off.”

“I’ve already been warned about that.”

It was late, but we chatted a little while longer.
