76 - Super Wavy Dramatic 50/50 Swiped Fluid Acrylics Artwork #3154-7.22.18

I am using a 16"x20" stretched canvas and begin by adding the colors from squeeze bottles, adding zigzagging patterns horizontally across the canvas. I level the colorful stripes with a small flat front spatula (#1). I am using a wet cotton rag just wider than the width of the canvas as a swipe cloth. The rag is dipped into a wide band of paint at one end which is the swipe color. The rag is allowed to soak up some of the color before slowly pulling the rag all the way to the other end over the zigzagging bands of colors. As I begin to pull the swipe cloth, I wave the rag back and forth as I drag it creating curves to the halfway point. I then I revert back to a straight swipe until I reach the end of the canvas and drag over the end of the canvas. I use a tube to blow air through into the paint creating furrows and spirals, exposing colors in the channels made by the air. I add waggles and spirals to finish the artwork using a bamboo skewer's blunt end. A torch is cautiously passed over the surface of the canvas to release any air trapped in the paint that might result in bubbles forming while the artwork dries or leaving pockmarks behind if left to pop on their own. Warming the paint will also often encourage patterns to emerge because the paint, in combination with the pouring mixture, helps encourage cells to form.
