Wicked Bog Guardian (Sup), Lvl.81

He’d already faced a handful of these creatures, which were like the older siblings of the swamp soldiers. He didn’t even care that the bog guardians were supreme-ranked monsters. Whatever strength Lanryax granted him in exchange for being Cursed, it was more than enough for Kaito to bridge the gap with his current attributes.

The monster roared to the reddish skies above as lightning forked between crimson clouds. In response, six echoes slithered out of the swamp waters around it, ringing in the creature.

Beady green orbs shone beneath shaggy, sodden vines, glancing around at Kaito and his copies. He could have sworn that the creature smirked.

At the almost knowing expression, a stray thought crossed his mind. Why are some monsters more sentient than others? I’ve faced off against epic-ranked creatures that could think and speak, yet there’s this thing that only has some mild self-awareness…

Not all monsters are made equally by the Lady, Lanryax chimed in, causing Kaito’s eye to twitch in irritation. Some of them create deeper connections with magical affinities early on and through that, they are able to refine their forms with each subsequent rank. The sooner they achieve a greater affinity during their development, then the sooner they become self-aware and are thus able to further direct their own future evolutions. It’s a common bottleneck that few monsters overcome, much like Classholders and their capacity for altering their own Class abilities. The Lady does not wantonly dole out strength. You have to earn it.

Despite his still simmering anger at Lanryax, Kaito found himself intrigued by the weapon’s wealth of knowledge. He hated to admit it, but he couldn’t deny the benefits granted by the Curse.

This was as toxic of a relationship as one could get. It was psychological and emotional abuse. Yet what could he do? They were inextricably bound together by a power beyond his ken.

He had to deal with it.

So, he vowed to take advantage of what he could without giving the Cursed chains another chance to invade his mind and put him through further torture.

And to do that, all Lanryax wanted was blood and battle. So, Kaito peered up at the bog guardian and gave it a savage grin.

Blood and battle? Ya, he could do that.
