“Davey,” called Luna from the direction of the kitchen, “Your mom called for you again today. You better call her back, or she’s going to think I didn’t give you the message. D’you hear me?” I was about to reply, but she was already on her way out. “I’ll see you boys tomorrow.”

It was quiet when she left. There always seems to be a disturbance in the atmosphere immediately after she leaves, followed by an intense, sexually charged silence. Today it was just quiet. Not charged. We were both feeling satiated from the pit stop we made in the veld on the way home. We took turns blowing each other. I blew him first. My lips were still tingling from the friction and my mouth was filled with the taste of him as I leant back against the Hilux and fed him my cock. He looked so beautiful on his knees in front of me. I came fast, and I didn’t apologise for it.

With that out of the way, I had a clear head. Luna was right; I did need to call my parents. It had been a while since I’d called them. A long while. They’d probably be getting worried about me. I’ve spoken to them less and less and our conversations have been shorter each time since this thing with Jonathan started. It’s not just that I felt like I was lying by not telling them; it’s that I couldn’t shake the feeling that they’d hear the change in my voice. I hear it. I hear it all the time. There’s a tightness that’s gone. A weight. A heaviness. I feel the absence of it in my chest, and I hear it when I speak. Even though I’ve never let them get to know all of me, my family do know me. They know me better than anyone.

“Do you think I should tell them?” I said.

He must have been lost in thought because he took a second to catch up. “Tell who what?”

“My parents. Should I tell them about this…about me?”

He smiled his slow smile and he looked at me kindly. “Davey, that’s a question only you know the answer to.”

“I know,” I said quickly, “but what would you do?”

“It doesn’t matter what I’d do. It only matters what you think is right for you.”

I sighed deeply. “Come on. Just tell what you think I should do.”

“I think you know what you want to do.”

I walked over to him. He was standing with his arms at his sides. Open. Approachable. I walked into his chest and whispered my greatest fear straight to his heart. “Do you think they’ll still love me?”

He was still for a moment. I could hear his heartbeat. It was steady. He cupped my chin and raised it so I was looking into his eyes. There was not a shadow of doubt in them. “They’ll be fine. In fact, I’ll bet you twenty rand they’ll be fine with it.”

“Twenty rand?” I couldn’t help smiling when I did the conversion.
