Chapter 24
In Search of Honey
It was mid-morning. The sun was already high in the bright blue sky. Another beautiful day in Tyrelia. They had spent the night at the edge of a meadow nestled in a hollowed-out section of the cliff. After a breakfast of bread, cheese and salami, washed down by refreshing water, theyâd discovered a bush laden with juicy, ripe blackberries. Theyâd picked the bush clean.
For the past couple of hours, they had been working their way along the grassy plateau, which sloped gently up towards the towering mountain.
âAha,â Willow announced. She was bending down, peering at something on the ground.
âWhat is it?â Freya asked. She crouched beside Willow. âIs it something to eat? Has the Ancient provided?â
Willow snorted. She pointed at the small, black pebble-sized object nestled amongst the blades of grass. âThat, Freya, is sheep dung. So, no, we are not going to eat it,â she said, grinning.
Freya blushed bright red. âI knew that.â
Willow stood and strode off, looking intently at the ground as she went. âHereâs more. And there,â she said, pointing.
Freya caught up. âYep, and thereâs a whole lot of flattened grass over there.â
âI reckon the flock spent the night in this area. Theyâre not far off.â
They set off once more.
Baa, baa.
âDid you hear that?â Freya asked.
âSure did.â Willow quickened her pace.
There! A sheep. And another.
Willow scanned from side to side. She spotted a large boulder. A cap, like her own, floated above it. She turned to Freya, touching her finger to her lips, her eyes mischievous. âShhh.â
Freya nodded. They crept towards the boulder. A strange rattling sound was coming from it. Snoring.
Willow sneaked up behind the boulder, then, snaking out a hand, knocked the cap off her brotherâs head. âWake up, sleepy head,â she yelled.
Alex yelped and scrambled to his feet, his eyes wide, disoriented. Then he spotted Willow.
âItâs you,â he exclaimed. In a single, fluid motion, he leapt over the boulder and tackled his twin.
They both went down in a tangle of lanky limbs. Willow shrieked then started laughing hysterically as Alex tickled her, pinning her to the ground.
âStop. Stop. Iâm sorry!â
âSo you should be, giving me a fright like that.â
Freya couldnât help it. She giggled.
Alex froze at the sound, then looked up. Seeing Freya, he scrambled off his sister and stood up. âWho are you?â he demanded, scowling.
âAlex, Alex. Calm down. This is my friend Freya.â Willow rolled to her knees, gesturing towards Freya. âAnd Freya, this is Alex.â
Alex grunted and nodded, still looking suspiciously at Freya. âWhatâs she doing here?â
Willow got to her feet and brushed grass off herself. She took a deep breath. âWell, thatâs a bit of a long story. So how about we all sit down, and Freya can tell you herself.â

When she had finished recounting her adventures to Alex, and how the clues that the tablet had revealed had led them to this place, he gave a low whistle.
âWow,â he said, staring at Freya in admiration, shaking his head. âThat is some story. Whatâs the latest
