For the third time someone knocked. I opened the door.

'Tesco's,' a man croaked; a trolley of groceries in front of him. He noted the syringe in my hand.

'Did you order Tesco's?' I called out to Martha.

'Yes,' she cried back, her voice still wavering.

I turned back to the man.

'You'd better come in.'

The Tesco man was not happy about coming in. His happiness receded further when he noticed the assorted packets of needles, vials and other injecting accoutrements sitting on our table. He shivered slightly.
