My Lady (Kovad)

Lord Thyde had his pilot park the shuttle at the air pad in the neighborhood where the party was taking place. From there, he could continue to work while being roughly a mile away.

He found himself distracted from his reports by concern when Sekara brought Flynae the first drink but chose to swallow his disapproval. She didn’t need him telling her what to do. His chosen role in her life was to keep her safe if he could no matter what she did.

As she headed to the dance floor with Will, Lord Thyde turned his attention back to the construction reports from sector 6. The battleship plant was behind on production, and the general in charge was making excuses. This meant he was either hiding something or was incompetent. No matter what, a demotion was coming his way quickly. In the meantime, Lord Thyde dove into the details to see exactly where things were going wrong.

He’s abruptly pulled out of his concentration when Flynae opens her eyes and realizes she’d been falling asleep. He feels the tension in her core as keenly as if it were happening in his body.

He waves his hand, and the reports on the hologram disappear. In a few quick strides, he’s outside. “With me,” he says to the two guards. They fall in behind him, matching his pace, as he begins swiftly jogging.

When he hears Sekara admit that Eric supplied the drinks for Flynae, he starts running. His heart beats faster than the exertion calls for as he sees through her eyes that she is followed from the house. He quickens his pace again, and his guards begin struggling to keep up. They don’t have the benefit of channeling the energy flowing around them to their use.

His fists clench when Flynae falls, and Eric stands over her. That boy might not even glance in her direction ever again when he is through with him tonight.

Lord Thyde sees her now, struggling with Eric, still several houses away. The boy shrieks in pain, and a thrill of approval flows through Kovad. The other boys pull her away, throw her to the ground, and hold her there.

The pounding of his footsteps becomes the only thing he hears as it becomes the sole focus of her attention. Even though he is keeping an entirely different pace and gait from that day when he killed her father, it’s like his steps have a consistent signature that her ears detect. He feels her terror and pain at the sound of his arrival gripping his spine. He hates it; hates that his approach causes her such anguish; hates that there is nothing he can do to change it; hates the helplessness he’s left with. He channels the helplessness to ire at the people hurting her now.

Eric and his accomplices look up with stunned expressions as Lord Thyde comes to a stop just fifteen feet from them. His guards catch up seconds later and flank him.

“Stun those three boys.” He points at the ones holding Flynae.
