With weight-forward (WF) line, the belly is short and near the forward end, so it shoots out easily, pulling the thinner running line with it. Weight-forward lines are the best choice for beginners. They are good for distance casting, but do not roll cast well.

On double-taper (DT) line, the belly is long and in the middle of the line; both ends taper equally. A double-taper line does not cast as far as a weight-forward, but is easier to mend and more economical; you can reverse it when one end wears out.
