Naturally, it occurred to Paola that we might be able to recover some of that material: It would be interesting to do a thorough analysis of its components.
Paola: How much was there? Like, a lot?
Jose: We accumulated quite a bit of it. We put it in a sack.
Paola: You put it in a sack?
Jose: Yeah, and we used to have decorations for Christmas and make it out of thatâ¦
Paola (laughing): Youâre kidding me! You used that angel hair in the sack for Christmas decorations, and maybe that came from another planet?
Jose: I guess, you know, we, we done it! (chuckles)
Paola: My God, are you kidding me, Jose? (laughing) You know what you are saying? Youâre saying that you took all that insulation from the inside of a space ship and made Christmas decorations, like, you really did use that stuff?
Jose: A lot of that, you know, that we found on the ground, weâd put it in a sack, and we took it home and we gave some of them away. And the people around the community there, they used it on the windows of the homes. Theyâd look like a spider webâ¦.
Paola: How many bags did you collect of the angel hair, do you think?
Jose: We had the hundred pound bean bag, where we used to put beans. Well, it was that size of a bag. Itâs actually like the size of a 55 gallon drum.
Paola: But what did you guys do? I mean, were you walking around just picking it up, putting it in there?
Jose: We just picked it up and took it up there, and we decided later it would be a good... We didnât have enough cotton to make angel hair to put on the windows and we put that on, and it looked good.
Paola: (laughs) Jose, so you never saw that stuff, except when you picked it up around the week of August 16th, right? You never saw that anywhere?
Jose: Ah, no. You know, a lot of the people that used to see it, used to ask us where we got it. We told them that we just found it. And that was it. You know, it was a secret.
Paola: How many people did you give it to?
Jose: Some of them are our neighbors, and some ranchers.
Paola: OK, and thenâ¦.
Jose: One thing that, um, that we tried, was to burn it and it wouldnât burn.
Paola: What made you think of burning it?
Jose: Well, to try; it wouldnât.
Paola: You just were doing, you wanted to see if it burned, and it wouldnât set afire.
Jose: Like, cotton, you know, you can, uh, uh light a match to it, and itâll burn. And that stuff didnât burn at all. (Note)
