Day 26

WAKING UP WITH A WARM and soft body spooning against his own made his mind reel for just a moment as the fog of sleep drew back. But the woman in his arms didn’t smell of vanilla and coconut. She smelled of fresh peaches.

Pritchard smiled and wanted to stay just like that, but his full bladder had woken him up, so he gingerly pulled away. It stirred her, and she looked up, all of last night apparently coming back to her, too. “Bathroom,” Pritchard whispered. “Be right back.”

Buck naked, he strolled to the toilet, catching a glimpse of a clock on the way. It was almost ten in the morning.

Oops. He’d slept in and not called Cat. And his phone was still on vibrate. He’d better check it.

He’d just finished and washed his hands when someone knocked on the door.

Hurriedly, he ran to the chair with his clothes and pulled the gun from the holster. “Who is it?”

“Cat!”

What the hell?

Sheila sat in bed, covering herself, looking afraid.

Pritchard lowered the gun and shook his head for her not to worry. “Just a second.”

“Just open up, I have breakfast.”

“I’ll just get dressed.”

“I’ve seen you in trunks, briefs aren’t that different. Hell, I’ve seen you nekkid.”

“You don’t have to advertise that through a door.” Pritchard pulled on his underwear.

“I might have to. There could be a woman around who’d like to see it.”

Pritchard rolled his eyes, pulling on his pants. He looked at Sheila. “You might want to take your clothes to the bathroom before he gets around to something really embarrassing.”

Sheila snorted a laugh and dashed from the bed to find her clothes. By the time she made it in and closed the door, Pritchard was halfway dressed. He pushed the gun down the back of his pants and opened the door, finding Cat holding up a grocery bag, but he had Alex and Patrick with him.

“What are you doing here?”

“Well, I told the boys you were having fun without us, and they weren’t having that, so...” Cat shoved the bag into Pritchard’s arms, then pushed past him to get in. He stopped and looked at the rumbled bed, then sniffed the air.

The shower turned on in the bathroom, and Cat theatrically turned to look at Pritchard, still standing in the door with a brown paper bag in his arms and two men waiting outside the open door. “You dawg.” Cat grinned and bobbed his brows, making Pritchard snort.

“Come on in, guys.” Pritchard moved to the kitchen to unload.

Alex and Patrick came in but didn’t close the door. It wasn’t exactly summer outside.

“Do you mind?” Pritchard pointed to the door.

“More are coming.”

Hemish squeezed through the opening, a huge grin spreading on his face when he saw Pritchard.

Damn. But at least he wasn’t wearing a kilt. He’d braided his beard, though, looking pretty Viking.

“So, where’s this princess? She needs to eat too, right?”

“Man!” Cat exclaimed. He pointed to the bathroom door then the bed.

The shower turned off, so Pritchard set about making coffee.
