The following day, I went through my usual on-the-road pre-game routine, which included breakfast at the restaurant located in the hotel. Several of my teammates were already there, including Aron. He was sitting at a table with Matthewson and Ellis.
âRockland, get your ass over here,â Matthewson called out, indicating the chair next to him. My eyes met Aronâs, and I froze. It was a stupid reaction. Weâd gone out with our teammates a couple of times since joining the team, but I was still worried someone would think it was weird for me to willingly sit at the same table as him. âIâm sure you and Parker can keep things civil long enough to eat breakfast.â
âHe doesnât have a baseball he can throw at my head, so weâre good.â Aron smirked like he usually did, but it felt different after what had happened the night before.
I chuckled and sat down next to Matthewson.
âHey, man. We were just talking about the game. I think itâs going to come down to the Giants and us this season,â Matthewson said as I took a seat next to him.
âI may have grown up a Giants fan, but we got this,â Aron added.
I hadnât reached the postseason in my nine-year career, and I could feel the excitement building as I played more games with the Rockies. I took nothing for granted, but it felt like we had a legitimate chance, and it was energizing.
âWhatever happens, Iâm happy I got traded,â Ellis stated.
I nodded. âAgreed.â
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Aron smile at my statement. Yeah, I was pretty stoked for a couple of reasons.
After breakfast, we headed back to our rooms to grab whatever we needed before getting on the buses. We were all on different floors and once Ellis and Matthewson exited the elevator, Aron turned toward me.
âI was going to text you about breakfast, but I realized I didnât have your number. It seems weird Iâve had your dick in my mouth, but not your number in my phone.â
I shook my head, grinning. âAre you going to mention my dick every time we talk?â
He shrugged. âProbably.â
Ignoring his comment, I took his phone from him and put my number in his contacts as the elevator came to a stop and the doors opened. I handed him back his phone and stepped out. âAnd donât be sending me any unsolicited dick pics.â
âOh, they wonât be unsolicited. Youâll be begging for them.â
âI donât beg,â I grunted.
âWeâll see.â He winked as the doors closed.
