Two years ago.

I wrapped the towel around my waist and stepped out of the bathroom, accidentally bumping into Axel. My hands fell to his arms, while he caught me around the wrist before the towel and I fell to the floor.

“Sorry,” he replied gruffly.

“What are you doing here so late?”

“Business.”

“Is my dad still in his office?” I looked over my shoulder.

“Yeah.” His eyes trailed down my body.

“I guess I should get dressed.” As I walked around him and brushed against his shoulder, I ran my hand through my wet hair.

“You should.”

“Morning.” I stretched and sat up in the bed in only my panties and the shirt he gave me to sleep in for the night.

“I need to get you home,” he said.

“What time is it?”

“Early.”

“Thank you for last night.”

He stared as I rose out of bed, picking up my dress and heels.

“You’re welcome.” He pushed my hair behind my ear.

An hour later, I stepped out of his car and bent, looking at him with his shades on, and smiled. “You still owe me that Truth or Dare.”

“Get to class, angel.”

“I like it when you call me angel.” Turning, I sauntered into the house and shut the door behind me. I leaned against it, sighing dreamily.

“Someone looks like they had a good time last night.” Mother stood with a cup of coffee in her hand.

“Mother, good morning.” I stepped away from the door and headed toward the stairs.

“I hope you used protection,” she remarked.

I paused at her comment, whirling around. “All we did was talk.”

“You expect me to believe that, little girl?”

“If I want to sleep with him, it’s my choice.”

“So you’ll whore yourself out! I’m so glad your father isn’t here. He’d be ashamed.”

“Funny, that’s how you got that ring on your finger.”

My head whipped back as she slapped me. “Understand something, little girl. I am the parent. I could take all of this away like that.” She snapped her fingers.

“Then do it! I refuse to live my life in a bubble for you and cartel rules.” I threw my hands in the air.

“That marriage is not happening. Over my dead body will I allow Axel to become your husband.”

“Not up to you.”

“We’ll see about that.” She sipped on her coffee and stared at me.

I left her alone and went to get ready for my day. I only had one class and then I’d work with Lamberto to get all the files on running the business.
