A while later, Brooke and Chloe were sat in another booth in the Italian restaurant. They had moved onto prosecco and ordered their meals, grateful that they were finally about to get some substance in their tummies.

Brooke had to admit it, she was having a really good time. The serious conversations were not awkward, there had been much laughter, and even the making fun of each other was on an equal par. It was easy, that’s what Brooke realised. And there was no expectation of two gay women, two single gay women correcting herself, going out. They were friends and acting as such.

When their drinks arrived they kept the conversation much lighter. Sticking to subjects like school, coming out stories, first kisses and even down to alternative jobs for Brooke. Jobs consisting of sheep herder, surf teacher, busker, and stripper. At that point they were giggling so loudly that other customers were stopping to look around at them.

The women were still giggling when their starters eventually arrived. They realized that they had probably consumed far too much drink. They blamed that on the restaurant, making them have three flirtinis in the wine bar due to the wait time, which ended up being an hour and ten minutes.

“You, my friend,” Chloe said pointing her fork towards Brooke, “are quickly evolving from that introverted and timid young lady I met last week,” Chloe smiled. She noticed the slight blush creep across Brooke’s face. “Hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to embarrass you.”

Brooke smiled a slight smile. “You didn’t. It’s just kind of nice, you know? That for someone who doesn’t know me very well, you have noticed a change in me. I have noticed it too, but I figured it was probably just me, being…I don’t know, stupid I suppose,” she said solemnly.

“Can I ask you something serious? And you can tell me to go to hell. I don’t want to offend you, but unfortunately, I may,” Chloe asked, moving her plate to a clear part of the table and pouring them both another drink.

“Well, I’m not so sure now you’ve said that, but you may as well. You don’t appear to be the type to purposely set out to hurt people, so I’m sure you are not intentionally looking to hurt me. Knock yourself out,” Brooke said seriously, taking more of her drink.

“Why do you still let her control you this way? Had I not seen this
