33 Jack and Jill
It didnât take long for Jack and Jill to arrive at their destination, still holding hands as tightly as when they left Path 2. It was as if someone had shot them through some sort of cannon, only they were standing the whole time and Jack didnât get motion sick. Their final destination was a media room, like something you would find in someoneâs home. There were three rows of seating with four overstuffed chairs in each row. The walls were draped in red silk, and there was a heavy, red velvet curtain pulled back with golden tassels on each side framing a huge screen.
âWhere would you like to sit?â asked Jack, motioning to the chairs with his free hand.
âRight in the middle,â Jill responded, pointing to two center chairs.
âThe middle it is,â said Jack, leading the way.
They finally let go of one another when they took their seats.
âAre you nervous?â Jill asked.
âWell, yes, honestly. Knowing that I was so horrible to you is bad enough. I think actually seeing it will probably be even worse. Jill, Iâm sâ¦â Jack was interrupted by the movie reel that started up all by itself. The recessed lighting faded to black as the two of them fixed their attention on the screen in front of them.
The movie opened with a shot of a young Jack asleep in his bed. His alarm began to buzz, so Jacky rolled over, turned the alarm off, and rolled back over to continue his slumber. Shortly thereafter, a lady came into his room. It was his mom. Wow â Jack had forgotten how beautiful she was when he was younger. She was dressed in her usual work clothes â a skirt, a button-up blouse, and sensible shoes.
âJacky, get up!â she barked as she grabbed hold of his shoulder and shook him a bit. âGet up! Itâs already 7 oâclock, Jacky. If you donât get up soon, youâll be late for school. Your breakfast is ready, so get up and wash your face. Letâs go!â she said as she exited the room. Shortly thereafter, young Jack could hear the voices of his parents
Suddenly, the scene changed to Jackâs mom and dad in the kitchen. Jackâs mom was busy getting everything ready for the day. A sack lunch was on the counter, and Jackâs mom was washing dishes in the sink.
âWhat the hellâs your problem, Mary?â Jackâs dad was sitting at the kitchen table, a half empty bottle of Jim Beam and a shot glass were in front of him.
âNothing, David. Iâm just trying to get everything done and get to work,â Jackâs mom responded to the tank-top clad man.
âOh, so what youâre doing is more important than making my breakfast, huh?â It was apparent that Jackâs dad was angry by the tone of his voice.
âNo, David, of course not. Itâs just that...â Mary began.
âItâs just that youâre a crappy wife and a horrible mother, so you canât make my breakfast.
