I’m no gangster—I’m an average man

But damn if I let ’em do me savage man

Before that, I’m strapped and will challenge him

Cock back and the gat will damage them.

Double rhyme entails matching two syllables to two similar sounding syllables and triple rhyme involves the same approach to three syllables. The words “average” and “savage” in the first couple constitute a double rhyme, but in order to make it work, the MC has to elide the first word down to two syllables: “av’rage.” The words “challenge” and “damage” are oblique rhymes—meaning words that do not rhyme, but are enunciated in such a way as to manufacture a rhyme, but they are each attached to the proper rhymes him and them. Jay-Z worked that same technique on “Moment of Clarity.”
