Chapter Eight

Apparently, that was the last straw for her body. Thank the gods again that she was in Trek’s arms because her head began to swim and stars floated through her vision. This had been one shock too many and she fainted. She recovered quickly enough and could hear orders being shouted in the background, but Trek was moving quickly away from the commotion.

Through the landscaped yard, she was flanked by her fierce enforcers and her packmates. Jack and Marian followed right behind. Caine opened one door after another as they made their way into the family’s private wing. Enforcers took posts outside each doorway as Trek carried her into their private living quarters before carefully setting her down onto a plush chair covered in pillows. Her tiger was agitated and needed this comfort while she thought things through. Trek seemed to understand.

“Thank you,” Raz murmured.

Marian wrapped a warm blanket around Raz before she spoke. “Axel and Xander will be here shortly. They are dealing with everything. You are safe, my daughter. I know you have been through so much these past few days. Remember you are a strong alpha matriarch who has the love and support of not only my sons and our family, but of our entire pack. Ida should be at the door at any moment with a few other women. They’re bringing tea and an early lunch because we missed breakfast, and you need to eat.”

Raz hugged Marian tightly. “Thank you, Mom. It’s been too much to take in, what with everything that happened over the past couple days. Just as I was finding my footing with the pack, up crops brothers who broke into the greenhouse and attacked. Why? And where was this so-called family all those years when I was in a cage?”

“Of course you have a lot of questions, that’s only normal, but right now we still need to get you healthy so you can deal with all these new developments. You fainted back in the greenhouse from the shock and stress, nearly causing your mates and pack to tear into your brothers. So first we get you all healed up. Then we figure out what’s going on with your birth family, because we are your family now, my daughter, make no mistake about it.” Marian was not a woman to be messed with, which gave Raz a tiny bit of strength. The rest would come when her mates arrived.

“Sounds like a perfect plan to me, Mom,” Raz agreed while Trek opened the door to their private living room, allowing Ida, Jamie, Rose, a woman she met briefly in the kitchen yesterday, and a few other females into the room, pushing or carrying various covered trays. The delicious smells were getting her tiger’s attention. She hadn’t realized how hungry she was until that moment.

“How are you, Matriarch? Doc is on his way to check on your and Marian’s cuts.” Ida asked before laying a plate in front of Raz.

“See, I know you can call Mom Marian.
