CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

The door of the studio of Starlight television network opened halfway, and a chubby woman from the control booth peeped into the studio and stared at the couple seated in two comfortable chairs. “Johnson and Loretta, your segment will start once the Airtel commercial is over.”

They looked at her and nodded. Johnson wore his signature black suit. Beside him, Loretta looked stunning in her blue pinstripe skirt and blouse.

“Louisa, you will start in 30 seconds,” the woman said to a lady in a stylish dress who would anchor today’s Johnretta interview segment.

“Thank you, Chioma,” Louisa said.

For the past two weeks, Johnson and Loretta had been preparing for the wedding. They had hired food caterers and had started working with a popular wedding planner, getting the best of everything. The bridegroom’s Tuxedo had been shipped from London, and Loretta had paid a fellow fashion designer to work on her own bridal dress. Now, her unique wedding gown was almost ready.

They would shut down the city next week Saturday, no doubt. For the past two weeks, they appeared on TV programs, honouring interviews and taking photographs with celebrities and journalists. Right now, Johnretta was the new internet sensation in the country. Fans were talking about the wedding on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Most fans were still debating Loretta’s diamond ring's worth, and this afternoon, they were in the studio of Starlight TV for an interview.

“Alright, Airtel Commercial is over,” a voice from the control booth said. “We will begin in three, two, one…”

The monitor flashed to the round room where Louisa, the program anchor, and the couple sat.

“Hello viewers,” Louisa started, flashing her signature smile. “With me are the latest couple in town—Johnson and Loretta, whose upcoming wedding is billed to shut down the city. They are here with me to share their love story with us.” She fixed her gaze at the couple. “Let me start with the question Johnretta fans want to know, how did you meet each other?”

Loretta flashed her perfect smile, which revealed her dimples and white teeth to the camera. “Well, my friend dragged me to a party one evening. One hour into the party, I was in a bad mood and had begun to regret ever coming to the party. So, I went to the bar to drink away my sorrows and then go home. Then, just like a knight in shining armour, he appeared, joined me in the bar and lightened my mood.” Loretta rested her head on Johnson’s shoulder, and he brushed the strands of her hair which covered her right ear with his hands.

Louisa grinned. “Hmmm, this is so romantic. I can’t wait to get married too.”

The couple smiled back.

“There is news that your wedding is coming up next Saturday. How is the preparation for the wedding? Everything about your upcoming wedding is trending on social media. You’ve made quite many fans who identify themselves as Johnrettans.”

Johnson nodded and said, “We are grateful that we have gotten so much support from our fans.
