KANE
Kane watched her breasts rise and fall through each heavy breath she pulled in. Things went from weird to worse in the span of the afterglow of the most intense and fantastic sex of his life.
He stared for hours at the ink now tattooed on Reseda's wrist. Why did he let her talk him into sleeping with her? From the very start, he knew it would end up being a bad decision. Yet, he fell prey to his dick and made the ultimate choice to allow himself pleasure over logic.
From the moment he met the woman, every decision heâd made was the polar opposite of what he'd normally do. She threw a giant wrench at him, and he caught it, like some damn trained dog. Which brought to mind the fucking wolves who started all this shit to begin with.
Then she had to go spring the topic of Nodin at him, just like Maquinna. Oh, she was good. He'd give her that. Maybe his grandmother told her to prod him about it. Yet her words struck his heart. He hated that she was right. Hated it to his core. He didn't want anything to do with Dominic because he was a wolf, and he didn't want Nodin to either.
Anger sweltered beneath his skin, and he clenched a fist. Reseda stirred next to him, mumbling something in Spanish. Fear spiked his heart as he watched the crinkles form around her closed eyes again, squinting in her sleep as if she were in pain, having some kind of nightmare. She'd done it all night long between short periods of relaxed sleep where she looked like an angel, a glow on her face like sheâd had when theyâd made love.
He warred with himself internally with each episode she had, as if he experienced it right along with her. Rage for letting himself get into this mess with her, anger at her for just beingâ¦her, to elation, enjoying the feel of her body next to his and how magical their sex was.
They'd become almost a comedy of errors, if it weren't a dire situation. He needed her to wake up. They needed to get back to Maquinna and find out what exactly was going on. Not to mention her mother. Every moment Reseda lay there was a moment her mother could succumb to the wolf bite. But as many times as he tried to rouse her, she wouldn't wake up. He had no means of getting her back to the house without her being able to walk, and he wasn't going to just leave her there.
Darkness gave way to light as the sun made its own rise from slumber. Reseda trembled beside him. The fire had long since burned out, allowing an icy chill to creep its way in. Being a shifter, Kane's body temperature ran hotter than a normal human. Reseda, under normal circumstances, said she couldn't feel anything at all, so he didn't think to restart it. But Kane did something to her.
