CHAPTER ELEVEN

The days and nights passed in a blur of faces, Elle honestly couldn’t keep track of them all so she tried to put it all into words on her lap top. She spent a great deal of time on her computer and on her phone once she had one. Julie called daily, usually asking what she was doing, if she was writing –usually because she could hear her typing and she was always very speedy in conversation whenever she had too much going on in her head.

They were all the typical markers that she was working, and the truth of it was, in a way Elle really was working. She was learning so much about the creatures that she’d been writing about and making a good living off for most her literary career, how could she not try to put all this new knowledge to work? Of course, there were certain aspects she knew that she would need to change just for the safety of the packs themselves, she didn’t want to unwittingly bring harm to them just because someone read her books and put two and two together.

“Where exactly do, werewolves come from?”

The house, at least she thought had been empty when she came down stairs for the day. She’d been hauled up in her room so much lately, it felt like she was entering another country when her feet found the first-floor landing and she peered around the empty living room. She found Marik in the kitchen reading the newspaper and that was when the question was blurted out of her mouth.

He looked at her quizzically for a moment before he placed his palm on his thigh and turned his chin up to her slowly.

“Well, kitten.” He paused using that nickname on her as the corner of his mouth quirked up somewhat. “When one wolf and another wolf really love each other—.”

Marik’s sarcasm was stopped in its tracks a she reached up playfully swatting the back of his head.

“You know what I mean, we all have a beginning somewhere, what’s yours. Evolutions, intelligent design, curse?”

Elle knew all the legends, but was there more truth to one than any other or over time had they all blurred together seamlessly until know one truly knew, at least not humans anyway. Werewolves were in their eyes, the things of fantasy.

“Who was the first werewolf?” Elle said leaning against the back of a kitchen chair, her fingers mildly drumming against the wood surface.

Marik saw where she was going with this, late at night he could hear her in her bedroom, her fingers flying over the keyboard of her lap top, sometimes pacing her bedroom while she talked to herself. She’d started a new book either that or she was chronicling their lives in minute detail. Bringing his coffee top to his lips he looked down at the newspaper before folding it up.

“Let’s go for a walk.” He said standing, stretching his torso slightly. “You’ve been in your room for days and you could use some fresh air, help cleanse the scent of cigarette smoke from your hair.
