CHAPTER 8
◊
OPPOSING FORCES
Not only a sister, mind you, but a twin. Identical by order, yet somehow it seemed this new wonder to behold was something of an entirely different force of nature.
Suddenly my taste turned to an insatiable hunger, one that drove on to starve the very heart of me. So deep was it that I knew a spoonful alone would never be enough to quell this lech of a relentless yearning that so fervently burned within. The mere thought of her consumed me, and I could not be satisfied without the gift to drink in her wine. Its want pined away inside my mind, driving me, forging its way to the center of my being so that soon it became all that I could think about.
Her hair was wild and free, coloured in blue-black ersatz. Her face was made-up in splashes of rose carried over the cheeks, and purple lined her eyes. Those piercing green-grey eyes…with lush lips coated in deep red, wet in the light that glistened upon them. She wore a Persian blue, long-sleeved teddy netted over navy undergarments with a lace-up bustier and buckle thong. Spider-webbed anklets and sapphire spiked heels donned her feet. So much skin of her bare body showed, the symmetry of angles running a motion of perfection, a fluid streamline drawn in the direction of everywhere I wanted to be.
As she leaned in closer over the bar counter, I could see a shape of things to come, running far beyond a list of her curves and angles found from front end prominence to backside bend.
I found myself unable to stave off starving beast no doubt clawing its way out of me to reach her. I could have died inside those eyes, only to be reborn and made to live on forevermore within her being.
“Hey, blue eyes, nice hair,” she said, her voice the spirit sound of an empyreal order. She smiled at me, and I lost my breath.
“The fruits of your asking,” came the otherwise chimerical voice to my right, now cutting through me like daggers, a nightmare severing the seams of this, our newly made affiliation.
The girl who rapt my heart in spades faltered from the grip of my gaze, and in her wavering she seemed jostled from a trance. She then turned her sights on the sound and grabbed the brown bottle that had seemed to materialize in front of us on the bar.
“Thanks, Gliesnis, you’re a doll,” she said.
Oh, but what grace! So confident, she grasped the bottle’s neck and tossed a look back as she shot me up with her aphrodisiac. Yeah, she was a woman who knew what she wanted. Take me.
“And you, dearest, have you settled on anything?” Gliese spoke, but I wasn’t seeing her.
My angel answered for me. “Yes,” she said, flirting with her eyes. “I’m sure there’s something you’d like, hmmm?”
Was this real? How could this be anything but a trick played on the mind? Perhaps I had simply imagined what Summer could become if only she were able.
