We used to take turns writing checks to each other so we’d have a little bit of float time till it cleared the bank and use that to pay our rent, you know. Never take out more than $20 when we were going out so that we wouldn’t spend too much money that we didn’t have. I mean, I had nothing. So I just wanted to make enough money every month to pay my bills, and then slowly, but surely, grow.”
