Feeding the Sheep
Besides feeding on the Word himself or herself, the shepherd must also have a heart for feeding the Word to the flock. The shepherd who faithfully feeds the flock will make sure that people read the Bible in ways that genuinely help them to see Jesus.
There is a way of reading Scripture, of course, that actually keeps us from approaching God or acknowledging our own perversities—and possibilities. Jesus warned about this:
You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. 3
