Meanwhile, in the real world, Simalo emerged from his chambers only to find an Anicocina standing directly outside of his door. He bowed to it quickly, and the creature asked, “You have the human?”

“Yes.” Simalo kept his head down though, but now he was able to identify the Anicocina. He could only ever do that them once they spoke, and this was Wor’mos, one of the Anicocinas who usually sided with Os’rak but still offered kindness to Simalo, so Simalo relaxed a little and lifted his head. “She needs sustenance though. Her body is weakening. She won’t survive much longer without food or water.”

Wor’mos nodded his hooded head, and an insect hiss rippled through the shadows of his hood before he spoke once more. “We shall see what can be done, but for now, your presence is required at the Atlayess Hall.” With that, he turned and walked away.

Simalo widened his eyes. The Atlayess Hall? That was where the Anicocina Queen, known as the Atlayess, dwelled, and Simalo had never set foot in there. He had never met her despite his long stay among the Anicocinas. They guarded her closely. Simalo had no idea what it meant to be summoned to her. He swallowed his fear and hastened after Wor’mos until he fell into step with him. “The Atlayess wishes to see me?”

“She does. And when you come into her presence, drop to your knees and bow your forehead to the ground. You will not look up at her. You will keep your head down. Only speak when spoken to. Do you understand?”

“I do.”

“Good.” With that, Wor’mos grabbed Simalo’s shoulder, and they teleported away in a swirl of black dust.
