The hour’s rest treated them well, giving them a little time to quietly get their story straight and practice their speech with a human that didn’t seem smart enough to catch on. It was Becky who showed up first, eyeing the strangers cautiously for a moment before approaching. “Jo fetch y’all anything yet?”

Silnosa looked up to her, smiling warmly. “Indeed, she fetched us’all the biscuits with gravy. Now we are to wait here for the ones known as The Billy and The Becky.”

“Well I’m Becky, Billy’ll be here any minute. You mind telling me what this is all about?”

“We are from the adoption people.” Narofeer nodded confidently.

Becky blinked a few times. “From… The adoption people?” She shook her head, confused. “Alright, tell you what. Y’all come with me, I’ll have Billy meet us at the house.”

Silnosa and Narofeer pushed themselves up. “To set you at ease, please understand that The Jo has granted us her ‘pinions about you, so it looks promising,” Narofeer supplied, his attempted replication of her accent coming across too fancifully.

Becky shook her head again, trying to make sense of the words. “Yeah, yeah, alright. Hey Jo!” She called towards the kitchen. “If you see Billy, tell him we got guests at the house!”

Jo poked her head out of the kitchen, waving her off. “Luck with yer baby, ya’ll deserve it! I best be the first ta meet’em!”
