Chapter Thirteen
After a full night of tossing and turning, I was no closer to that answer.
What did I want? What did I want? What did I want?
WhatdoIwantwhatdoIwantwhatdoIwant? Ugh!
It didnât matter how many ways I asked myself that same question, it never became any clearer.
I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror as I brushed my purple strands. Now when did that one spring up? They were worse than rabbits.
I slammed the brush down on the sink. If I really thought about it, there wasnât much of a need for me to stick around Bigfoot Bay anymore, unless my long-term plan included landing myself a permanent lunch date with Amy or Trixie. And that was not an option, no matter how good their spaghetti and waffles were.
My life in Chi-town was waiting for me. I was pretty much useless here as a witch. Obviously, I wasnât going to be much help locating Violet by gazing at blank spellbook pages. My sister would come home when she wanted to, and I didnât need to be around for that. Sage was the current guardian of Cheater Frog and would be able to kick him to the curb on my behalf after the spell was reversed.
When my parents returned to the States, my mom could help with Sal the Doll, or at least blast her way in to see Mrs. Zweifler or something. Also, she could find a way to round up the pack of kappas while she was at it. She had no problem performing spells.
My mom and sister could return the Chimera plant to the lake with Sageâs help. Argh! Iâd forgotten to ask Clarisse again. But no matter. Surely, the statue was yet another thing Mom and Violet could handle much better than I ever could.
If Clarisse made good on her promise to get Gavin out of jail, and if Emily was truly better off with her great-aunt⦠well, then. There really wasnât anything for me to worry about here.
Much.
âWould you rather he believes heâs happy, or would you rather he winds up like my sisterâor worse?â
If I had a blueberry for every time Iâd replayed that sentence in my head, Iâd feed them all to Fernando and make him blow up like the giant blueberry girl in the Chocolate Factory.
Ugh! Regina. Well, if the town hated her so much, it could just spit her out. It didnât need my help for that either.
And if she ended up living here again⦠As long as she had Griffin, she wouldnât hurt him or anyone else.
âWould you rather he believes heâs happy, or would you rather he winds up like my sisterâor worse?â
I stomped out of the bedroom, spying the full pot of coffee Iâd made immediately upon returning from my in-car conversation with Clarisse the other day. Iâd planned to drown my sorrows, but something had held me back. The promise of a restful nightâs sleep, perhaps? Ha! That excuse mightâve held water if pounding large amounts of coffee while stressed didnât make me comatose.
