In its simplest form, art represents the use of our true talents and gifts, realized in material form. The idea of craft, of working means, has lost currency in our times, especially within the contemporary art community. We tend to equate craft with preciousness, or decorativeness, and an outdated mode of thinking and working. I would wish to return the idea of craft, and the implications of its primary message of transformation and exchange of energies between the artist and their materials, to its rightful place alongside the conceptual and feeling elements in a work of art.
