The Celestial Shrine was located in a section of the Osui Palace, where the Goddess resided.
And in a section of its wide grounds was a stall from the Fuuzen. Koharu had suggested setting one up to try and capitalize on the festival. Karla went along with it, and the plan ended up working like crazy.
âWe sold it allâ¦â
âWe did. We made a killing,â Koharu nodded in satisfaction.
The Fuuzen had found great success after the debate. This stall, too, had run out of food to sell by the time the sun set. They were already closing up shop and the festival hadnât even reached its peak (right before the fireworks).
âGood luck!â âYouâll be our next Goddess!â âI hope you win!â Everyone who passed by the stall showed their support. Karla was glad to hear these comments, but it was another kind of compliment that really brightened her day:
âThis is so good!â âIâll drop by the Fuuzen next time!â âYou gave me the courage to follow my dreams!â
People were finally starting to recognize her determination.
âYouâre so popular, Lady Karla.â
âThat I am⦠Wait, whatâs that?!â
Koharu was wearing a mask molded in Karlaâs image. It was so detailed, Karla had actually thought she was talking to herself for a second.
âThis, too, is proof of your popularity. People have started selling them.â
âGet those off the market! Gosh, how embarrassing. Who made these? I never gave them permission.â
âYou can find it at any Kidoshu stall.â
âStop iiit! Why didnât you ask me about it?!â
Karla hit Koharu on the shoulders.
The Kidoshu were a group of capable ninjas, but sometimes their capabilities took a twisted turn. Maybe that came down to their leaderâsâKoharuâsâmind being twisted to begin with.
Karla huffed and sat down on the stool behind the stall.
âKeep that up and I wonât make you any more snacks. Iâll only let it slide this time since Iâm in a good mood.â
âBecause of all the support, eh? Feels good, doesnât it?â
ââ¦Yeah.â
Karla played with her hair, lost in thought. It made her feel awkward, somehow.
She felt liberated after so many years of repressing herself. And she owed this sense of relief entirely to the crimson vampire whoâd encouraged her during the debate.
Terakomari had defended Karla against all of Karinâs one-sided attacks, roiling in sincere anger at their opponent as she praised Karlaâs sweets. It was only because of that that Karla was able to reveal her true feelings.
ââ¦I have to thank Terakomari for this.â
âYou havenât yet?â
âIâve been so busy that I havenât had the chance to sit down with her.â
âHuh. Oh, one more thing. Couldnât you ask her to resolve that issue with your grandmother?â Koharu said while taking down the stall.
Karla faltered.
Karla had revealed her true intentions to the citizens of the Heavenly Paradise, butâ¦she hadnât once spoken with her grandmother since. Sheâd been ignoring her whenever their paths crossed at home. The old woman must have been more furious than ever.
Just as Karla thought she ought to speak with her grandmotherâ¦a vampire appeared in the crowd. Terakomari Gandesblood, wearing a kimono.
