How to recycle

You don’t need to be Greta Thunberg to know that there are really easy things you can do every day to live more sustainably and look after the planet. Recycling is probably the easiest way to do this.

Recycling bins are usually taken out once a fortnight. You should check on your local council website to see which day it is, then write it down on a noticeboard or on a Post-it Note on the bin so that it’s impossible to forget. Your local council website is also a good place to get information on what can and can’t be recycled in your area.

Most houses will have a designated recycling bin, which can be filled with anything recyclable (which we’ll get on to in a moment), but other councils require you to put your glass into a box, and everything else into a bag. These should be provided by the council, so if your student house doesn’t have them (or they’re stolen by drunken revellers), request that they’re delivered to you free of charge.
