Chapter 28

“Brianna!” I call as I walk down the hallway. My attempts to keep the frustration out of my voice are waning.

I should have known that Kohl would be the stubborn one in this discovery of myself. I should have known he would be Mr. Jealous-and-Possessive. As much as I want to have this conversation at length with him, right now my emotions are too invested to know it will be a rational one. I need to find the kid and figure out what she saw. Amber is going to kill me.

I didn’t even think to lock his bedroom door. I didn’t know that Brianna would still be at the house. My assumption was that she went with her mom to the store is my own fuck up.

“Lexi?” I hear Emmy say as she walks through the front door. Behind her Tate and Brianna trail in.

“Shit,” I whisper out. “I see she found you,” I say to Emmy as I walk towards them.

“Yeah,” Emmy grimaces. “She was playing outside and we didn’t realize she was gone until it was too late.”

“I didn’t see anything,” Brianna shrugs.

“Are you sure about that?” I deadpan at her. There is no way she didn’t get an eye full of Kohl’s naked ass on the bed.

“I didn’t see…much,” she giggles.

“I’m so dead,” I grunt as I plop onto the couch. Emmy follows beside me with a chuckle.

“I’ve walked in on my mom and dad,” Brianna shrugs.

“You should have knocked,” Tate says as he looks down at her. “Whatever it is you saw, you need to just keep it to yourself. Got it?” he says to her.

“I won’t tell anyone. It was pretty gross, anyway,” Brianna says with a gagging motion.

“Awesome,” I say, laying my head on the back of the couch.

“Look, my sister has had the sex talk with her. It’s really not that big of a deal. She should have knocked,” Tate says, trying to comfort me.

“Trust me, I won’t be barging in any other rooms from here on out,” Brianna says as she turns and walks into the kitchen.

“Did you seriously have sex with Kohl?” Emmy asks, facing me.

“Yes,” I whisper out, not looking over at her.

“Then why do you look like you just had a fight?” Emmy places her hand on my thigh and I lift my head up to see her staring at me. I can see Tate out of the corner of my eye, watching us.

“We did. We had sex, then we fought,” I grunt, sitting up straighter.

“Does he know how not to fight with you after sex?” Emmy groans.

“Apparently not.”

“What did you two fight about?” Tate asks, joining the conversation.

“Um…” I swallow. How do I say this out loud to them?

“Lexi, spit it out,” Em demands.

“I told him I wasn’t giving up Kalob,” I do as she says.

“You told him that you want Kalob also?” Tate asks. There isn’t judgment in his tone, though, it’s a simple question.

“Basically. We didn’t have a full-on conversation about it. I just told
