Astrid made her way back to the English Trust visitors’ centre and took out her phone. She found Sergeant Harper’s card in her wallet and rang the number. He should really know this. It might even stir him into action.

‘Astrid Kisner.’ He answered firmly. Obviously, he’d taken the time to put her name down in his contact list.

‘Sergeant Harper. I’ve some information about Eric Wainwright. The man who died at the Arne on Monday night.’ She heard the brrrh of a sigh.

‘Is that right?’

‘Yes, something that proves that he was poisoned.’

‘And how did you get this information?’

‘I was with him on the night he died.’

There was a muffled conversation, as if he was talking to a colleague. Maybe asking for a pen. When he spoke again his tone was more urgent. ‘Where are you?’
