Use the “I want to get along with you” tool. What if a sibling is doing something that is bothering you? Instead of flipping your lid, try using a three-part message that can help you get along with a brother or sister. Say the three parts in this order:

1. “Please stop __________” (then say what your brother or sister is doing).

2. “Please do __________” (then say what you’d like a sibling to do instead).

3. “If you do that, I’ll __________” (then say a favor you will do).

For example, if your sister keeps talking to you while you are trying to read, you could say:

1. “Please stop talking to me while I’m reading my homework.”

2. “Please go to the other room and wait for me. Maybe you can color a picture.”

3. “If you do that, I’ll play checkers with you as soon as I’m done reading.”
