DINNER IS DELICIOUS. WE SIT out under those twinkle lights, with torches blazing to keep away the mosquitoes, and eat our fill of burgers and hot dogs and potato salad and elote, a spicy corn on the cob sprinkled with cheese, which I had never had before, but Mom had. She sighs so loudly over it that Mr. Juarez promises to send her home with his secret spice blend. And of course everybody cheers when Mrs. Juarez brings out Mom’s watermelon pie. Daniel eats two slices.
