Provide enrichment
Enrichment is another factor that can improve an animalâs ability to cope with stress. Enrichment can be difficult to define. Indeed, there is no single agreed upon definition within the scientific literature (Meehan and Mench, 2007). However, in general, when we refer to enrichment, weâre looking for a couple factors. First, enrichment should provide an increased opportunity for animals to engage in species-typical behavior. Second, it should increase welfare in a measurable way. (Meehan and Mench, 2007; Clark, 2017).
