CHAPTER 12

NEW ENEMIES

“I know they are trying to show off by beating on the smaller one. All they are doing is embarrassing themselves. So what a bunch of them can gang up and beat up one man? They are all scared to face him alone. I heard they went after the big one once and he gave Jannif that black eye.”

-Aubrey Larring talking to her air sack coworkers

“You were gone for a while,” John said as Jorran sat down beside him. “What happened to your eye?”

“I ran afoul of Darrowin and his crew,” Jorran said. “It is difficult to fight them without hurting them. One of them caught me pretty good in the stomach. Another one caught me in the face. You have magic that lets you either get away from them or hurt them without being obvious.”

“Those young men are getting bolder and bolder,” John said. “I think they are trying to catch the eye of the young ladies who work here.”

“They are,” Jorran admitted. “And they hate that we have been pulling a lot of the looks. You have spent the two weeks we have been here slyly flirting with Ms. Whittington while I have given the eye to everyone else.”

“I seriously think that we have enough knowledge that we can just leave,” John said. “My minions have been there every step of the way while the newest crew have been taught how to fly one of these things. With our magic and skill, I am sure that just me and you can keep one of these things afloat.”

“No, we need a full crew,” Jorran said. “Mundanes will have to eventually operate one of these on our side. Depending on the ship, we are looking at anywhere from ten to fifty crew members.”

“At least we know we can make a horrible copy of an Airship,” John said.

“We don't know if it is horrible,” Jorran replied. “We only know that it is small.”

“Coy wanted to maximize the lift,” Jorran said. “Twice as many furnaces than we need with twice as many fans for speed. I think he didn't realize how much fuel would be needed to be carried on a ship like this.”

“It is really only built for five,” John said as he looked over at it. He took a ten member ship and just got carried away.”

“Our first flight is supposed to be today,” Jorran said. “I know others have noticed our small Airship. Many have remarked that it is the ugliest thing that they have ever seen.”

“We only care if the damn thing can float,” John said. “Once that happens, then we are good to go.”

“There they go again,” Jorran said and pointed. A majestic looking Airship was rising into the sky and John could see the fire blaring from the twin chimneys. The group had gotten the ship into the air again and would circe around the town and then try and lower the craft.

“I have seen enough, let's get this into the air,” Coy said as he came up from behind the pair.
