Chapter 14

Oh, this was bad, very bad! What happened to keeping his distance? Every time he was near Seraphine, he did or said something stupid. The other day he almost kissed her, and today he said if she were his wife, he’d love and cherish her every day of their lives together.

Hello? Did he want her to think he was a stalker? She already had one psycho stalker she couldn’t get rid of, who just happened to be an alpha gray wolf shifter and who secreted a familiar scent.

If he was right, Seraphine’s ex could very well be a violent man. Seraphine may be in danger, real, serious danger. Dante wasn’t going to let her out of his sight until Brian was out of her life for good.

That’s why he offered to paint Seraphine and Veronique’s apartment. Once he’d completed this task, he’d do more renovations in their apartment and the building, anything to keep an eye on her and keep her safe.

But he couldn’t continue messing up like he just did. He had to remain levelheaded and stop his emotions and sexual attraction toward her from making him do or say something stupid once again.

He waited until he heard her sit at the kitchen table and turn on her laptop to call Victor on his cell phone. When Victor replied, Dante whispered, “Victor, I have a little assignment for you. I need you to look into a Brian Marrow’s record and tell me everything you can find on him.”

“All right, I’m on it. You want to meet at lunchtime to discuss my findings and exactly why you’re asking me to do this?”

Dante shrugged. “No, I can’t make it then. But we could meet tonight, say around ten at the usual locale?”

“I’ll see you then.”

Dante hung up, then slipped his phone into the back pocket of his jeans. He leaned down to get the roller in the bucket he’d brought down and then looked at the dark red wall and the sky blue paint Seraphine had picked out for her room. With no primer to facilitate his work, he’d have to apply at least three coats of paint to hide the old, ugly color.

Yeah, he certainly had his work cut out for him this morning.
