Xander is here

Fuck.

Just my fucking luck that Henry decided he wanted to be a better brother now. He and Xander concocted the visit over drinks one night. I probably would have been happier to see him if I wasn’t so annoyed with the night they intruded on.

It wasn’t long before we heard the door open and another two voices fill the foyer. Xander laughed loudly at whatever Sloan said and casually strolled into the kitchen. Sloan was right behind him, mustering a smile.

“We’re going out,” Sloan announced. She wore a short cocktail dress that ended at mid-thigh.

Xander and Henry filled the air with the story of how they planned a surprise visit for the weekend, finding only a single night where their schedules would align. They took the Amari jet in and were here for the night, flying back midday tomorrow. In my mind, I was already planning a re-do of tonight’s scuttled plans.

Sloan’s expression remained the same, exactly as mine. Happy to see them, disappointed at the evening that was lost. In wanting to ensure a surprise, they booked rooms at the Four Seasons rather than stay with either of us, a fact I noted for later consideration.

The conversation drifted to work, as it so often did between the four of us. I couldn’t help but enjoy the way she looked in that dress. The black fabric clung tightly. Long beaded sleeves wrapped her delicate arms. The hem sat on the honey skin of her thigh, beckoning to be touched. Being more cognizant of how often my eyes roved over her, I attempted to pay attention. She clocked my lingering gaze and waited until a lull.

“Are you wearing that out?” Sloan asked Xander with mild trepidation. She looked from his feet to his eyes, slowly narrowing hers as she did. Henry and Xander ambushed each of us directly after deplaning, and both were dressed for comfort. Their things had gone directly to the hotel.

“Oh, good call.” Xander looked himself over, then nodded to Sloan. “Want to come hang while I get ready?”

Henry had no such question for me, and I was mildly annoyed with Xander’s. The question was inherently innocent, but I wasn’t in a sharing mood. It didn’t matter; I knew the answer.

Sloan walked further into the kitchen and leaned over the stove to smell the pasta. “Why don’t we meet you there? I’m dressed and hungry, if Marcus is willing to share.”

It was good enough for them. They went on their way with a plan to text us wherever they decided to go.

“I see what you did there.” I smiled at her. She bit her lower lip. “You look…” I looked to the door after it clicked to confirm that both Henry and Xander had left.

“Nice?” she teased.

“Fucking lethal.”

“So…will you share?” She asked. Not waiting for my response, she grabbed a bowl, scooped some pasta, and sat on the counter to eat it. The already short dress moved higher up her thigh.

“Does this still count as the dinner I owe you?”

She let out a faux resigned sigh, with a hint of disappointment in her eyes.
